WHAT IS BAPTISM?
A SIGN OF FAITH
Baptism is your first step of obedience after you have accepted Jesus as Lord and Savior. It is a sign that you, as a believer, is united by faith with Christ and his Bride, the church.
Mark 16:15-16 - "And then he told them, “Go into all the world and preach the Good News to everyone. Anyone who believes and is baptized will be saved. But anyone who refuses to believe will be condemned."
A PICTURE OF SPIRITUAL DEATH & LIFE
We you are baptized, it shower that you have died with Christ to sin and have been raised to new life Christ. This why, at Celebration, we baptize by immersion into water after we have made the decision to be born again.
Romans 6:4 - "For we died and were buried with Christ by baptism. And just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glorious power of the Father, now we also may live new lives."
A MEANS OF EMPOWERMENT
There is a direct link between the step of baptism and the release of the Holy Spirit in your life as a believer. Following baptism, you will experience a fresh filling of the Spirit and empowerment for ministry.
Acts 2:38 - "Peter replied, “Each of you must repent of your sins and turn to God, and be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. Then you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit."
why should i get baptized?
A STEP OF OBEDIENCE
Baptism isn't about being obedient to church tradition - It is about submitting to the Lordship of Jesus Christ, who died for all of our sins. It is an act of humble obedience to our Savior.
Matthew 28:18-20 - "Jesus came and told his disciples, “I have been given all authority in heaven and on earth. Therefore, go and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit. Teach these new disciples to obey all the commands I have given you. And be sure of this: I am with you always, even to the end of the age.”
AN ACT OF COMMITMENT TO THE LOCAL CHURCH
In baptism, we show that we belong to the Body of Christ. This means a commitment to be accountable to the church, serve in the church, and be a part of church life.
Acts 2:41 - "Those who believed what Peter said were baptized and added to the church that day..."
JESUS MODELED IT HIMSELF
As if all of these reasons weren't already enough, Jesus Himself was baptized. If you are going to live like Jesus did, you have to be baptized.
Acts 2:38 - "One day Jesus came from Nazareth in Galilee, and John baptized him in the Jordan River. As Jesus came up out of the water, he saw the heavens splitting apart and the Holy Spirit descending on him like a dove."
BELIEVER'S BAPTISM
Baptism is for those who call Jesus Christ Lord and Savior and commit themselves to follow Him. Therefore, we baptize believers at their own request when they are able to give a testimony of faith and salvation in Christ.
Acts 8:12 - "But now the people believed Philip’s message of Good News concerning the Kingdom of God and the name of Jesus Christ. As a result, many men and women were baptized."
A PUBLIC DECLARATION OF FAITH
Everyone who gets baptized at Celebration must fill in a request form where they have to share their testimony of salvation in written form. We want to know of how God saved you so that we can testify together of the power of God.
Colossians 2:12 - "For you were buried with Christ when you were baptized. And with him you were raised to new life because you trusted the mighty power of God, who raised Christ from the dead."
